Who Are These Jokers?

Meet Michelle and Al

Your Intrepid Travelers

Michelle and Al first met over 20 years ago while living in Japan, long before ‘getting on the internet’ was a thing. When Michelle decided it was time to return to Australia, Al hid in her suitcase rather than face another Canadian winter.

They’ve been avid travelers ever since.

Way back then, finding information about where to go and how to get there was often as challenging as the trip itself.

The more things change, the more things stay the same, it seems.

In this age of ‘information at our fingertips’, you might reasonably expect that finding accurate and useful travel information would be easy but – alas – that is not always the case.

These pages represent our efforts to (hopefully) make your travel planning a little easier, and (maybe) add a little fun to your day.

Post-modern backpacking

What the heck is that?

After many years in the saddle, sadly these old bones can’t travel in quite the same way we used to. Gone are the days (hopefully!) of twenty-hour bus rides to save 20 bucks.

But that doesn’t mean we’ve traded our backpacks in for spinner suitcases and left the long bus rides behind forever. We like to think we’re just a little more ‘strategic’ in our trip planning and execution.

So, like anything good on the internet we decided we’d better give our style of travel a funky name. Hence, the term ‘Post-modern Backpacking’ was born.

  • What we can while we can
  • Low adrenaline, not no adrenaline
  • Young enough to try, old enough to know better
  • On a ‘bootstring’ budget, not a shoestring budget
  • The hostel experience… without the dorm rooms
  • Healthful but not health bound
  • Tactical spending to minimize the misery!
